Viper 64in Airplane Radio-Control
23/07/15 09:05:37am

Viper 64in by:CoMIYC69

Viper is a full-house ship with a laminar flow foam wing, balsa fuselage, retractable landing gear, and uses a .61 Glow Engine.

Well...moving up to the 70's more people will recognize this model. Early example of a Foamy laminated with balsa. The preformed wing parts are still available on line.

After winning several notable awards, best new model, best airplane model, best finish, etc. this plane became very popular for the 'Go Fast' crowd. Handles like a dream and finishes first in class!

Between the Viper Jet, Viper Car and Star Wars the Viper airplane is still relatively easy to research. Parts are still available and this plane still competes. If you have foam shaping down this assembly will be a breeze. If not it is a great plane to learn foam forming techniques. (Still one I have to Master)

You'll have to look for the authors six page instructions called "Building the Viper My Way" but the magazine article is included in the plan file.
Velie Monocoupe Airplane Free-Flight
23/07/15 06:50:38pm

Velie Monocoupe by:CoMIYC69

Nice little In/Outdoor 1/22 scale flyer. Kit still available approximately £9.95 for the plan and £30 for the cut/molded parts.

About this plane:
The first Monocoupe was built in an abandoned church in Davenport, Iowa, and first flew on April 1, 1927. Various models were in production, more or less, continuously, from that time until the late 1940s. The Monocoupe Company went bankrupt in 1950.

The original Monocoupe design came from Don A. Luscombe's desire to build an enclosed two-place aircraft for business or person use, something lighter and more comfortable than open-cockpit biplanes. Luscombe was somewhat influenced by the Belgian Delmonty-Poncelet Limousine, a high-wing monoplane with a side-by-side enclosed cabin and the reverse curve rear fuselage lines that were to become one of the signature identifier features of the Monocoupes. Luscombe founded Central States Aero Company and hired Clayton Folkerts, a young self-taught designer. In 1928, the Mono 22 was the first light aircraft awarded an Aircraft Type Certificate (number 22) and in 1930 it was fitted with a Velie M-5 engine to become the Model 70.

Why do you want to build and fly this plane?
It's fun all year round! It's tough and relatively inexpensive to put together. It's still popular. It will help you observe the traits of flight and gliding. It's extremely popular. You may want to see how it flies before trying a larger scale of the model. Scaled as large as 1/3 scale!

The plans are clear and easy to follow. Great for the beginner and the seasoned modeller. If you're young and don't see the thrill, take a second look at these classics. If 'flying' is what you love this is a great plan for enthusiasts.

Check out the video of a 1/4 scale model that was scaled fro a rubber band model. This is a great progression for those honing their crafting skills.
