Simitar 049 RCM 669

RCModeler's Simitar 049 RCM 669

The Simitar 049 was designed by Bill Evans who designed many model airplanes of this concept i.e. basically a flying wing with a vertical stabilizer without a rudder. The wing on the Simitar 049 has a 48-inch wingspan, a root chord of 10 inches and a tip chord of approximately 6 inches. The wing is foam with the leading and trailing edges covered in 1/16-inch balsa. It's unusual for a foam wing to have cap strips instead of full balsa cover. Roll pitch and yaw for this model accomplished by using elevons/ailerons. The interesting part of the implementation of elevons in this airplane is the use of 2 servos on a "sled". One servo controls the trailing edge as conventional elevators and the 2nd servo on the sled moves both servos fore and aft for the elevon controller. Really a slick innovative implementation. Nowadays with computer based transmitters elevon control is pretty much standard. After all of this the fuselage is perhaps a boring subject as it is a typical rectangular cross-section sheeted top bottom and sides.
