Fournier RF-01 model airplane plan

Fournier RF-01

Fournier RF-01

Rene Fournier was a ceramist by trade, and started off as a homebuilder with a design he called the RF-01 Avion-Planeur (airplane-glider). A single-seat light aircraft/powered sailplane with modified Volkswagen engine, first flown July 6,1960. The aircraft caught the fancy of someone in the French Government, which provides grants-in-aid to projects it considers worthwhile. A second prototype was built, and then Four-nier entered into partnership with Antoine d'Assche, who was then producing Jodel two-seaters in a hangar at Gap in the French Alps under the trade name of Alpavia. They produced quite a number of the little airplanes, which were not exactly powered sailplanes but airplanes with an unusually shallow angle of glide; successive improvements brought about the RF4 (the second prototype having been the 2, and the original production version the 3).

This model is rather small having a 10+ inch wingspan powered by Cox.010 Pee Wee glow engine. The plan was designed by Walt Mooney a recognizable name and model airplane business with the date of March 1961. It appears that this model is designed for competition as there is a PAA dummy load drawn on the plan. The wing went rib drawings don't make sense to me as there are 3 ribs shown: a tip rib with a quantity of 5, a root rib with a quantity of 2. Then there is something called a "sliced rib" with the quantity of 24. These ribs quantities don't jibe with the plan view of the wing by my reckoning none of the ribs and the wing are the same length, but what do I know? Other than this, the the model be a straightforward standardized model airplane build.

more like 36 inch span lincoln on 07/11/2016 20:40
Scaling from the 6 inch prop shown in the electric version, the span is around 36 inches. That means an enlargement to 220 percent of the sheet size. Seems like quite a bit for an .010, but what do I know. However, if the Pee Wee is the same dimension from the tip of the glow plug to the center of the shaft, then the motor drawing fits that scale as well.
Fournier RF-01 derfred on 08/11/2016 12:42
Its a motor glider and the structure is very light, if there is no wind it will fly on a .010 engine. I would put a tiny brushless on it, perhaps.
