North American F-51D Mustang model airplane plan

North American F-51D Mustang

Kyosho Corporation's North American F-51D Mustang

Plan is in excellent condition and parts are readily available.
ARF Kit notes:

Between 1941 and 1945, the AAF ordered 14,855 Mustangs which 7,956 were P-51Ds. During the Korean War, P-51Ds were used primarily for close support of ground forces until withdrawn from combat in 1953.
Kyosho has created this famous fighter escort model to look like the P51D with rounded fuselage edges and smooth wingtips while maintaining safe and easy flight characteristics in a tail dragger model. The P-51D easily accommodates a 40-45 glow engine as well as popular electric power combinations. Kyosho now produces this famous fighter/bomber with a precise factory assembled balsa and light ply main fuselage, tail feathers and wings. All surfaces are expertly covered with a strong lightweight covering that resist the effects of nitro glow fuels. The covering material is applied in layers to replicate the unique camouflage pattern with decals already applied for you.
Noteworthy is the rounded shape of the fuselage and the concave rear ------------pit windows. The attention to detail carries through to the fiberglass cowl and is painted to match the fuselage colors. Gear covers and wheel well inserts are included with an accurately produced clear canopy. Push rods are steel to wood shafts with aluminum ends that attach to beefy control horns. The P-51D is shipped with fixed gear landing gear wires and wheels and are adaptable to mechanical 90 degree rotating retracts. The wire mount blocks in the wings are removable to expose the mechanical retract mounting blocks.
The P-51D is designed for ease of assembly with all of the hardware including the fuel tank, motor mount and spinner. The light wing loading makes the P-51D a good first time tail dragger and capable of all of the fighter maneuvers such as loops, rolls, Cuban eights and more with easy and slow landing characteristics. The P-51D's lightweight is also adaptable to Electric Power (EP).

The main structure from laser and CNC cut balsa. The wings and fuselage are jig assembled for perfect alignment. The P-451D fuselage features rounded edges and shaped sides to emulate the full size P-51D Mustang.
Factory covered for you with a strong lightweight fuel resistant covering in two layers to simulate the camouflage finish of the P-51D. The Kyosho covering is virtually wrinkle-free and is a low temperature covering.
The landing gear can be either the included fixed gear or adapted with the factory installed blocks for mechanical retracts.
Spacious fuselage interior facilitates easy radio installation and will easily accommodate batteries for electric flight.
The lightweight construction of the P-51D makes it easy to convert for electric flight.
Complete hardware for linkages, engine mount, fixed gear, wheels, fuel cell and spinner are all included in the kit.
Assembly time depending on building skills is approximately 48 hours.

Love building and flying. I've always flown on private property and only been involved with clubs twice. I live in southern Ontario Canada near Niagara Falls. I build at least one plane a year. I am fairly new to 3D helicopters.

Radio-Control Airplane Scale Outdoor Various-Wood-Types

My name is Donnie and I've been flying planes, helicopters, racing cars and launching rockets since 1970 when I got my first U-control plane from Carl Goldberg models. I finally got my first RC in 1983 a Cessna 182 kit with four channels. My favorite planes are 3D of every sort of aircraft. Anything capable of punching holes in the sky. IRL I work with programming and I use the skills I have to build my own designs and plans. Thank you for the donations.

COVID19 Notice:

If your orders placed during the COVID pandemic are delayed the reason is the reduced number of airline flights and your national mail service not distributing mail as it normally would, please ask at your local post office what is the delay currently, we just can´t tell you any better than they.

The feedback from US customers who ordered during April and May is that orders are being delivered in about one month and a half. If you ordered Priority mail you can use the tracking code I added to the Paypal transaction at the USPS (or any other mail service) website.

Order Queue:

Current queue for new orders of 3d printed kits is 2 months. (Starting on the 20th of June 2020)

For printed plans there is no queue. Prints are posted next business day.

This calculator will work on pdf and image format files, if the file is very large, 5 or even 10 Mb it will take longer to process the plan file, it may finish even after the button animation stops spinning, please be patient when calculating larger files.

Please read the Plans Printing Service Terms of Use before placing an order.

What are you ordering:

You are ordering a print from the main PDF file in this listing, it´s exactly like taking this file in a thumb drive to a local print shop and ask them to make a print.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.
In doubt please ask us for an opinion.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale this plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.

You will receive:

  • Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet of the PDF file from this listing, depending on what you have purchased.
  • Rolled sheets, up to 5 in the same cardboard tube.
  • Envelope, up to 5 sheets per envelope.
  • Articles and Instructions if they are available and if you order them.
  • Air Mail, Priority, Priority Insured or Normal mail, according to your choice.

About our printers:

We use professional quality laser OCÉ and Canon printers/copiers, these printers use toner, not ink so the printings will be durable and waterproof.

About the different media types:

Bond Paper: White Bond paper, 80 grams per square meter.
Bond Tracing paper: Bond Tracing paper, 90 grams per square meter.
Polyester film: High quality polyester sheet incredibly durable, will resist cuts and glue and can be washed (I use it as sail material on my RC sailboats).

We charge by print length (914mm or 91,4cm or 36in. by the length of the print)
This means that a plan 120cm by 150cm will be charged two times 150cm because it will be printed in two tiles, a plan 91cm by 150cm will be charged one time its length or 150cm and a plan 91cm by 40cm will be charged 40cm.
The system will try to fit a plan in the 91,4cm of the printer width in order to reduce the costs or print length to the maximum. This is the same charging method used in any printshop.

We will use paper or waxed paper padded envelopes for folded plans and hard cardboard tubes with plastic ends for rolled plans, depending on your choice.

We ship from Portugal, Europe and use the reliable Portuguese mail system CTT.
CTT has delivery agreements with different entities on each country so if you´re from the US you may have your order delivered by USPS, in the UK may be Royal Mail and so on.

3D Printed Parts
Order 3D Printed Parts for the North American F-51D Mustang

General Information

3D printing allow us to design not only complete airplane models but also parts to complete balsa, foam or even composite model airplanes.

Parts can be designed and printed to fit exactly a model you have or a model you plan to build, even if you are not building this model to the full size plan.

3D Printing, and 3D CAD allow us to create the actual parts to fit on our models but also allow us to create negative molds where we can make composite parts.

I´m adding this service to all the plan listings on the site knowing that not every part you imagine or need can be done, knowing this, jobs will be evaluated case by case and a price estimate will be given on request.

What can be done with 3D Printing:

  • Canopies
  • Cowls
  • Wheel Pants
  • Landing Gears
  • Wing Ribs
  • Motor Mounts
  • Servo Trays
  • Servo Covers
  • Wings
  • Fuselages
  • Complete Models

Full Models, Wings or Fuselages

It is possible to design a complete model for you but keep in mind that this is a lengthy process, many hours are needed to design and test a fully 3D Printed model. The finished model cannot have the same internal structure of the wooden made counterpart because it wouldn´t be possible to print it, it would have to have a structure like the models you can see in the 3D Printed Kits section of the site.

From the outside they are very loyal to the plan but still they have to be printed in sections, typically to fit a 250X210X200 mm cube that is the printer maximum build volume.

3D Printed planes are also heavier than light balsa models, all built up and ready to fly, with an electric power system they are generally a little lighter than the same model if it were powered by a glow engine. Please have a look at the 3D Printed kits section to have an idea on this.

I will calculate a price upon request, please contact me here mentioning this PlanID: 82879 and the job you wish me to do.
