P-40 Warhawk model airplane plan

P-40 Warhawk

Flying Models's P-40 Warhawk

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk was made famous in WW2 flying from China as the Flying Tigers. The first flight of a P-40 was in October 1938 with the last operational aircraft being retired in 1958. 13,738 P-40s of various types were built.

The P-40 built from these plans is meant to be competitively raced in Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) class rules called "Proto Speed". The finished model has a 20.5 inch (521.7 mm) wingspan (more or less) and is powered by McCoy.49 nitro engine turning a 8x13 propeller. A MUCH smaller engine or an electric motor could make a "tame" fun-fly aircraft. The fuselage and wing(s) require some serious carving, shaping and sanding. An article by the designer is part of the download file.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale the P-40 Warhawk or any other PDF plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.
To order a scaled plan please copy the plan url or the following ID (ID:83095) and send us a message with the desired wingspan and any other info you may find useful.

You will receive:

  • Waterproof Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet, depending on what you have purchased.

This plan terrifies me! :-)

Lots of solid wood, lots of metal, lots of wing loading!

I would need to buy some serious wood working / carving tools, for sure. "Be careful what you wish for"? LOL
