Transavia PL-12 Airtruk model airplane plan

Transavia PL-12 Airtruk

Not known's Transavia PL-12 Airtruk

The Transavia Airtruk was built by Transavia Corporation, a subsidiary of Transfield Limited, which was actually a heavy steel construction company. A bit left field to have an aviation branch, eh? Years ago I climbed all over their last production unit, took all the measurements and about 100 detail photos, then 90 percent finished a set of plans. I left the hobby for a while and sold all this Airtruk gear along with my other gear. Very regretful. For years following re-entry into the hobby I tried to find a set of plans for an Airtruk, and finally ferreted out a set, which are here. I have other detail pics, factory manuals, etc, and will try and incorporate these somehow. Otherwise just contact me. Also, please observe that the model in the thumbnail is actually a larger version of just under 3.0m span, many of which are floating around, so there may be these larger plans available somewhere on the web.

The Airtruk contains a one ton hopper which feeds boom sprays mounted on the stubby lower wing. It is a fairly nimble cropduster, and to my last recollection, a cropdusting company in Albury, NSW, Australia, still have one or two in service. A PL-12 was used in the film Mad Max 3 - Beyond Thunderdome. This model has a cleaner frontal appearance than the early models which actually ran a radial engine.

What are you ordering:

You are ordering a print from the main PDF file in this listing, it´s exactly like taking this file in a thumb drive to a local print shop and ask them to make a print.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.
In doubt please ask us for an opinion.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale this plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.

You will receive:

  • Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet of the PDF file from this listing, depending on what you have purchased.
  • Rolled sheets, up to 5 in the same cardboard tube.
  • Envelope, up to 5 sheets per envelope.
  • Articles and Instructions if they are available and if you order them.
  • Air Mail, Priority, Priority Insured or Normal mail, according to your choice.

About our printers:

We use professional quality laser OCÉ and Canon printers/copiers, these printers use toner, not ink so the printings will be durable and waterproof.

About the different media types:

Bond Paper: White Bond paper, 80 grams per square meter.
Bond Tracing paper: Bond Tracing paper, 90 grams per square meter.
Polyester film: High quality polyester sheet incredibly durable, will resist cuts and glue and can be washed (I use it as sail material on my RC sailboats).

Pricing:

We charge by print length (914mm or 91,4cm or 36in. by the length of the print)
This means that a plan 120cm by 150cm will be charged two times 150cm because it will be printed in two tiles, a plan 91cm by 150cm will be charged one time its length or 150cm and a plan 91cm by 40cm will be charged 40cm.
The system will try to fit a plan in the 91,4cm of the printer width in order to reduce the costs or print length to the maximum. This is the same charging method used in any printshop.

3D Printed Parts
Order 3D Printed Parts for the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk

General Information

3D printing allow us to design not only complete airplane models but also parts to complete balsa, foam or even composite model airplanes.

Parts can be designed and printed to fit exactly a model you have or a model you plan to build, even if you are not building this model to the full size plan.

3D Printing, and 3D CAD allow us to create the actual parts to fit on our models but also allow us to create negative molds where we can make composite parts.

I´m adding this service to all the plan listings on the site knowing that not every part you imagine or need can be done, knowing this, jobs will be evaluated case by case and a price estimate will be given on request.

What can be done with 3D Printing:

  • Canopies
  • Cowls
  • Wheel Pants
  • Landing Gears
  • Wing Ribs
  • Motor Mounts
  • Servo Trays
  • Servo Covers
  • Wings
  • Fuselages
  • Complete Models

Full Models, Wings or Fuselages

It is possible to design a complete model for you but keep in mind that this is a lengthy process, many hours are needed to design and test a fully 3D Printed model. The finished model cannot have the same internal structure of the wooden made counterpart because it wouldn´t be possible to print it, it would have to have a structure like the models you can see in the 3D Printed Kits section of the site.

From the outside they are very loyal to the plan but still they have to be printed in sections, typically to fit a 250X210X200 mm cube that is the printer maximum build volume.

3D Printed planes are also heavier than light balsa models, all built up and ready to fly, with an electric power system they are generally a little lighter than the same model if it were powered by a glow engine. Please have a look at the 3D Printed kits section to have an idea on this.

Pricing

I will calculate a price upon request, please contact me here mentioning this PlanID: 96225 and the job you wish me to do.

Comments & Corrections
Do you have questions, comments or corrections about the Transavia PL-12 Airtruk? Your input will surely help others to build this model...

These plans are incomplete. fmarcie on 25/09/2016 21:09
The page 3 of the plans you have here do not include the wing jigs, J1 thru J6. The final version of these plans do included the jigs. There is also a construction manual and a bill of materials that was originally included with theses plans. The top wing and booms are built as one piece to insure alignment. This can't be done without the jigs. I know this because I designed this model.

Thanks Frank halihome on 25/09/2016 22:57
Hi Frank,

Thanks for your input and thanks for creating the original plans and articles. I haven't looked intricately at the plan. As I commented, I crawled all over their last factory production unit. I searched and searched for years for the plans, until I finally found the information which I shared here previously existing on the Foro Aeromodelismo site, which at least provided more than I started with. There are build blogs on the web for the larger model which featured in one of my photos and it would be good if someone could also share those. I'm sure anyone wanting to build this model would appreciate any further information you can provide. Could you please forward any further information to Fred at at the site´s contact page (referencing the plan number) so that he can include it with the current information?

Thanks,
Steve
Deepest apologies Frank halihome on 26/09/2016 08:04
Hi Frank,

I sincerely apologise for putting the wrong designer name on the information page. I must have been having a seniors moment. The mistake is corrected and you are nominated in the designer info now. I also look forward to you helping out with the missing information.

Thanks again,
Steve
Wing Jig roversgonemad on 19/12/2022 04:25
I don’t suppose the aforementioned wing/tail jig plans have turned up? I’m keen on building this plane and as the designer stated, the jig is essential.

Cheers
Jigs halihome on 19/12/2022 10:50
If you read the top message, it is from the guy who designed the plans, where he mentions that a completed version of these plans included jigs, etc. If they are so critical, why has he not offered that stuff to the page? Thanks for nothing, Frank. I merely obtained the plan from an obscure site which has since closed, and shared it. I haven't built this model but I've built plenty of others where I had to make my own jigs. All it takes is an understanding of aeronautical principles, and some logical thinking. Can't help any more than that.

Roger that! Like water, just looking for a path of least resistance. Work smart, not hard.
