Apogee sport model airplane plan

Apogee sport

EMC's Apogee sport

The Apogee Sport is based on Dr.’s Mark Drela original all wood design of the Apogee. This a full Discus Hand Launch (DLG) redesigns to be a more economical alternative to the all composite Apogee line. The Apogee Sport provides with a high performance experience in a small package and price, with an All Up Weight of 4.0 oz, a thin and light airfoil, yet strong construction, this DLG can outperform many other gliders in its class. The kit is reinforced with carbon, and includes an all carbon throwing blade for maximum throwing experience. The AG airfoil offers excellent aerodynamics, while the out come is a stable yet a fun plane

Terms of Service.
Please read the Plans Printing Service Terms of Use before placing an order.

What are you ordering:

You are ordering a print from the main PDF file in this listing, it´s exactly like taking this file in a thumb drive to a local print shop and ask them to make a print.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.
In doubt please ask us for an opinion.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale this plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.

You will receive:

  • Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet of the PDF file from this listing, depending on what you have purchased.
  • Rolled sheets, up to 5 in the same cardboard tube.
  • Envelope, up to 5 sheets per envelope.
  • Articles and Instructions if they are available and if you order them.
  • Air Mail, Priority, Priority Insured or Normal mail, according to your choice.

About our printers:

We use professional quality laser OCÉ and Canon printers/copiers, these printers use toner, not ink so the printings will be durable and waterproof.

About the different media types:

Bond Paper: White Bond paper, 80 grams per square meter.
Bond Tracing paper: Bond Tracing paper, 90 grams per square meter.
Polyester film: High quality polyester sheet incredibly durable, will resist cuts and glue and can be washed (I use it as sail material on my RC sailboats).

Pricing:

We charge by print length (914mm or 91,4cm or 36in. by the length of the print)
This means that a plan 120cm by 150cm will be charged two times 150cm because it will be printed in two tiles, a plan 91cm by 150cm will be charged one time its length or 150cm and a plan 91cm by 40cm will be charged 40cm.
The system will try to fit a plan in the 91,4cm of the printer width in order to reduce the costs or print length to the maximum. This is the same charging method used in any printshop.

Packaging:

We will use paper or waxed paper padded envelopes for folded plans and hard cardboard tubes with plastic ends for rolled plans, depending on your choice.

Shipping:

We ship from Portugal, Europe and use the reliable Portuguese mail system CTT.
CTT has delivery agreements with different entities on each country so if you´re from the US you may have your order delivered by USPS, in the UK may be Royal Mail and so on.

3D Printed Parts
Order 3D Printed Parts for the Apogee sport

General Information

3D printing allow us to design not only complete airplane models but also parts to complete balsa, foam or even composite model airplanes.

Parts can be designed and printed to fit exactly a model you have or a model you plan to build, even if you are not building this model to the full size plan.

3D Printing, and 3D CAD allow us to create the actual parts to fit on our models but also allow us to create negative molds where we can make composite parts.

I´m adding this service to all the plan listings on the site knowing that not every part you imagine or need can be done, knowing this, jobs will be evaluated case by case and a price estimate will be given on request.

What can be done with 3D Printing:

  • Canopies
  • Cowls
  • Wheel Pants
  • Landing Gears
  • Wing Ribs
  • Motor Mounts
  • Servo Trays
  • Servo Covers
  • Wings
  • Fuselages
  • Complete Models

Full Models, Wings or Fuselages

It is possible to design a complete model for you but keep in mind that this is a lengthy process, many hours are needed to design and test a fully 3D Printed model. The finished model cannot have the same internal structure of the wooden made counterpart because it wouldn´t be possible to print it, it would have to have a structure like the models you can see in the 3D Printed Kits section of the site.

From the outside they are very loyal to the plan but still they have to be printed in sections, typically to fit a 250X210X200 mm cube that is the printer maximum build volume.

3D Printed planes are also heavier than light balsa models, all built up and ready to fly, with an electric power system they are generally a little lighter than the same model if it were powered by a glow engine. Please have a look at the 3D Printed kits section to have an idea on this.

Pricing

I will calculate a price upon request, please contact me here mentioning this PlanID: 96324 and the job you wish me to do.

Great looking plane!

There doesn't seem to be any details of the carbon spars though, their size etc, and what are the two strips shown each side?

Ok, I understand, and I see the article.

Size of the Print Münze on 25/05/2016 08:55
In which size do I have to print it? A0?
Re: Size of Print koenraad on 25/05/2016 09:13
I just told the copyshop to print it at 100% and it worked out fine on a A1. It could be that 0.5cm of black space was cut of.
This is a kit version of a scratch built design lincoln on 06/09/2016 18:09
If you want to scratch build, I suggest you try the original. It flies amazingly well for it's size. The 30 inch is not as fun, but then, 30 inches is very very small for this sort of glider. Two caveats: for DLG, you might want to copy the tail size and type from the plan on this page, and it does involve a lot of sanding. However, the page links to a precision sanding method that works very well.
