Miss Denver. model airplane plan

Miss Denver.

R C Modeler's Miss Denver.

I would like to introduce you to Miss Denver - a very welcome companion at a Class C stunt event or an open pylon race.
If you have already looked at the plans you will see that this is a plane that is made to look like a stunt flyer and not the latest military weapons system, or, on the other hand, some box with a wing attached. Miss Denver was designed to look like an airplane used in stunt events or sports flying while utilizing the latest and fastest method of construction possible con-sistent with keeping a trim weight of ap-proximately six and a half pounds.
What? A standard landing gear? Whoever took a lady to a contest that had three legs? You will find out, after a few flights, that Miss 'D' will handle every bit as well as a tricycle geared plane with a lot less money spent on propellers. Also, if you would like to have the tricycle landing gear crowd hide their heads in the sand, install a set of electric brakes using right rudder - right brake; left rudder- left brake, up elevator - both brakes, using extreme throw of controls to actuate brakes.
Miss 'D' was designed to win Class C stunt events but has proved also that an open pylon race is fair game. She has never placed less than second place in any contest entered. In the Mile Hi RC Contest at Denver, Colorado she placed first in Class III stunt. This contest had very formidable competition with German Fighter pilots for judges. In Wichita, Kansas, she took first in Open Pylon; second, Class III stunt. At the Colorado Fall Festival, she won top honors in Open Pylon as well as Class III stunt.
Miss 'D' was not designed overnight. To the contrary, approximately fourteen months of modifications were made from the date of the original conception. Not being an aeronautical engineer, I did not take it upon myself to design the airfoil, but made several wings using semi-symmetrical, symmetrical, tapered, and straight wings, using contest-proven air-foils. The wing used was decided upon for the following reasons:
(1) Any improvement a taper could make was far outweighed by the case of building a straight wing.
(2) The airfoil had these advantages - (a) good rate of sink at low engine rpm; (b) very stable, all stalls are clean, with no snap characteristics at any speed; (c) smooth, even flight inverted or upright, no jerking or bounc-ing about; (d) good speed transition.
The wing-testing program was carried out with the help of Bill Kessler of BK Model Products, using foam wings manu-factured at his shop.
You probably noticed there is a fiber-glass cowl. This is no harder to build than a normal balsa cowl and has the advantage of being stronger as well as making access to the engine very easy.
Miss 'D' uses a radial mounted engine. I feel this is a definite advantage to the builder for the following reasons:
(1) Ease of mounting engine
(2) Completely clean fuel and battery compartment
(3) Unequalled strength
But most important, every engine and every different size propeller demands a different right thrust setting. More good airframes have been set aside because they wouldn't track properly through loops, etc. This was not the fault of the aircraft, but simply required a small thrust change to correct.

Member Profile for André

Hello!

I'm André Costa (Brazil), I build and fly model airplanes since
1968 (F/F, UC). At 1974 I ingressed in RC, my first radio, was a Logictrol 3 ch, the engine was OSmax 25 rc and Falcon 56.
In the 80's I build varied scale model airplanes. In 1985 I started the construction of a experimental ultra-light airplane in wood, which flew sucessfull in 1991. Currently, I dedicate to the research of inventive solutions for light electric models.
With my son Geraldo, I’m editing plan’s for you!

What are you ordering:

You are ordering a print from the main PDF file in this listing, it´s exactly like taking this file in a thumb drive to a local print shop and ask them to make a print.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.
In doubt please ask us for an opinion.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale this plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.

You will receive:

  • Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet of the PDF file from this listing, depending on what you have purchased.
  • Rolled sheets, up to 5 in the same cardboard tube.

  • Articles and Instructions if they are available and if you order them.

About our printers:

We use professional quality laser OCÉ and Canon printers/copiers, these printers use toner, not ink so the printings will be durable and waterproof.

About the different media types:

Bond Paper: White Bond paper, 80 grams per square meter.
Bond Tracing paper: Bond Tracing paper, 90 grams per square meter.
Polyester film: High quality polyester sheet incredibly durable, will resist cuts and glue and can be washed (I use it as sail material on my RC sailboats).

Pricing:

We charge by print length (914mm or 91,4cm or 36in. by the length of the print)
This means that a plan 120cm by 150cm will be charged two times 150cm because it will be printed in two tiles, a plan 91cm by 150cm will be charged one time its length or 150cm and a plan 91cm by 40cm will be charged 40cm.
The system will try to fit a plan in the 91,4cm of the printer width in order to reduce the costs or print length to the maximum. This is the same charging method used in any printshop.

3D Printed Parts
Order 3D Printed Parts for the Miss Denver.

General Information

3D printing allow us to design not only complete airplane models but also parts to complete balsa, foam or even composite model airplanes.

Parts can be designed and printed to fit exactly a model you have or a model you plan to build, even if you are not building this model to the full size plan.

3D Printing, and 3D CAD allow us to create the actual parts to fit on our models but also allow us to create negative molds where we can make composite parts.

I´m adding this service to all the plan listings on the site knowing that not every part you imagine or need can be done, knowing this, jobs will be evaluated case by case and a price estimate will be given on request.

What can be done with 3D Printing:

  • Canopies
  • Cowls
  • Wheel Pants
  • Landing Gears
  • Wing Ribs
  • Motor Mounts
  • Servo Trays
  • Servo Covers
  • Wings
  • Fuselages
  • Complete Models

Full Models, Wings or Fuselages

It is possible to design a complete model for you but keep in mind that this is a lengthy process, many hours are needed to design and test a fully 3D Printed model. The finished model cannot have the same internal structure of the wooden made counterpart because it wouldn´t be possible to print it, it would have to have a structure like the models you can see in the 3D Printed Kits section of the site.

From the outside they are very loyal to the plan but still they have to be printed in sections, typically to fit a 250X210X200 mm cube that is the printer maximum build volume.

3D Printed planes are also heavier than light balsa models, all built up and ready to fly, with an electric power system they are generally a little lighter than the same model if it were powered by a glow engine. Please have a look at the 3D Printed kits section to have an idea on this.

Pricing

I will calculate a price upon request, please contact me here mentioning this PlanID: 98091 and the job you wish me to do.
