Polaris model airplane plan

Polaris

Steve Shumate's Polaris

Welcome to the Polaris seaplane parkflyer! This model is a parkflyer adaptation of Laddie Mikulasko's beautiful North Star seaplane. It features simple sheet foam construction and excellent handling qualities, both in the air and on the water. In flight this model is smooth and stable, yet also very aerobatic. On the water it tracks straight as a narrow and takes off and lands effortlessly. But one of my favorite things about this model is the amazing speed range—with the recommended power setup the top speed is in excess of 70mph, yet the model slows down well and can plop down into the water at high alpha under full control at less than 10mph. This allows the model to be flown in very tight spaces if desired, or if you have a bigger flying site you can openit up and enjoy the speed. It handles wind and waves remarkably well, too. This model also flies very well off of grass—take offs require only 10-20 feet and it can even taxi and do easy touch and goes off of grass.
Power recommendations:
We've been doing a lot of flight testing with the Polaris and have settled on two power packages that work very well.
The 2212-6 motor will offer the best performance, and is great if you have a lot of larger packs in the 2100 range. But we really like the 2212-10 running on a good 1300 or 1320 pack.
We recommend cooling vents since the ESC is fully enclosed.
Optional Heat Sink:
The optional heat sink provides additional cooling for the ESC. In fact, we've found by using the heat sink, additional venting is not necessary. This makes sealing up your Polaris a snap! Simply trim off the shrink tube from the flat part of the ESC, apply a small amount of the included thermal paste to the heast sink, and then secure it with a small amount of CA or epoxy. Size: 28 mm x 28 mm x 12 mm, weighs 8 grams
High Power Set-up (recommended)
Motor - Spin Max 2212-6 (2200 kv)
ESC - 30 amp minimum, 40 amp recommended, cooling vents recommended
Prop - APC 6/4 E
Battery - 3 cell lipo, 1300 mah (min. 25C) to 2250 mah
Mid Power Set-up
Motor - Spin Max 2212-10 (1400 kv)
ESC - 30 amp minimum, cooling vents recommended
Prop - APC 7/5E or 7/6 Slow Fly
Battery - 3 cell lipo, 1200 to 1320 recommended, up to 2100
Specifications

Length–38.4"
AUW–17-22 oz.

Terms of Service.
Please read the Plans Printing Service Terms of Use before placing an order.

What are you ordering:

You are ordering a print from the main PDF file in this listing, it´s exactly like taking this file in a thumb drive to a local print shop and ask them to make a print.

About the plan source:

You should verify if the source file has the quality for the type of construction you intend to do, we will print the file without any kind of enhancement or scaling. To know if the file is good please download it and open it on a pdf viewer like Adobe pdf viewer and set the view level or zoom level to 100% or 1:1 or full scale or actual size, depending on which version or pdf viewer you are using. Also, using the measuring tool make sure all the parts fit together and have the correct size.
In doubt please ask us for an opinion.

Plans Scaling:

We can scale this plan for you. But please keep in mind that if this plan is not vector, if you enlarge it too much the quality will be degraded.

You will receive:

  • Laser Printed plan on good quality Bond paper or/and Tracing Paper and/or Polyester sheet of the PDF file from this listing, depending on what you have purchased.
  • Rolled sheets, up to 5 in the same cardboard tube.
  • Envelope, up to 5 sheets per envelope.
  • Articles and Instructions if they are available and if you order them.
  • Air Mail, Priority, Priority Insured or Normal mail, according to your choice.

About our printers:

We use professional quality laser OCÉ and Canon printers/copiers, these printers use toner, not ink so the printings will be durable and waterproof.

About the different media types:

Bond Paper: White Bond paper, 80 grams per square meter.
Bond Tracing paper: Bond Tracing paper, 90 grams per square meter.
Polyester film: High quality polyester sheet incredibly durable, will resist cuts and glue and can be washed (I use it as sail material on my RC sailboats).

Pricing:

We charge by print length (914mm or 91,4cm or 36in. by the length of the print)
This means that a plan 120cm by 150cm will be charged two times 150cm because it will be printed in two tiles, a plan 91cm by 150cm will be charged one time its length or 150cm and a plan 91cm by 40cm will be charged 40cm.
The system will try to fit a plan in the 91,4cm of the printer width in order to reduce the costs or print length to the maximum. This is the same charging method used in any printshop.

Packaging:

We will use paper or waxed paper padded envelopes for folded plans and hard cardboard tubes with plastic ends for rolled plans, depending on your choice.

Shipping:

We ship from Portugal, Europe and use the reliable Portuguese mail system CTT.
CTT has delivery agreements with different entities on each country so if you´re from the US you may have your order delivered by USPS, in the UK may be Royal Mail and so on.
Orders are dispatched on the next or second business day after purchase.

Thanks for the assembly drawing, but is there a full drawing of all the parts on 1 page?
It would make cutting them out so much easier.
Is there a build log available too?
I think this will be my next project.
Thanks again for the quick response.

Polaris derfred on 25/02/2017 14:38
ok, I didn´t noticed that. I´ll switch back. If you like you can include all those files as supplemental files under the Media tab at the plan edit page.
